Chinyelu Susan Onwurah hopes to become the North’s first black woman MP as she stands for the Labour Party (the Newcastle Central seat) at the next election.
44-year-old Chinyelu was born in Newcastle and attended the city’s Kenton Comprehensive School before leaving and eventually heading to the bright lights of London to go to university. She is currently a Senior Engineer working in the public sector.
“I was honoured when the local members of Newcastle Central Labour Party selected me to fight the next General Election. It is a great city, with a proud history. And whilst the future will bring challenges, it will bring great opportunities too. When the election is called I will be seeking your support to succeed Jim Cousins as your Member of Parliament. I want to use my experience in business and the technology industries to place Newcastle at the centre of a new green revolution” - Chi
