Nwafor Orizu (1915-1999). was Nigeria's second Senate President from (November 16, 1960—January 15, 1966) during the First Republic of Nigeria, and at some point Acting President of Nigeria.
On January 16, a group of Nigerian army officers, under Major Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu, struck. In the ambiguity that followed, Nwafor Orizu, as Acting President, handed over power to General Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi commanding the Nigerian Army.
Afterwards, Orizu faded from the political scene the moment he transferred power to Ironsi. He remained an educator setting up a high school, the Nigerian Secondary School, in Nnewi, Anambra State.
Orizu died in 1999.
